FESTIVAL ECHOANTHOS 2024 MUSIC VILLAGE: KRISTI STASSINOPOULOU & STATHIS KALYVIOTIS / TERRACOTTA PROJECT
School Sq. Chromonastiri Rethymnon, Chromonastiri Rethymnon, Crete
The neologism GREEKADELIA aptly describes the musical range of Kristi Stasinopoulou and Stathis Kalyviotis who draw their main artistic inspiration from the traditional music of Greece. From there, the pun refers to further influences: meditative trance music, ambient, electronic and psychedelic punk rock. Kristi and Stathis form a catchy soundscape from these musical ingredients and bring to the audience their own, contemporary interpretation of Greek folk music, beyond any folkloric cliché. With lute, Indian keyboard, various drums and live looping, Kristi's haunting vocals take us on a journey. The way in which TERRACOTTA PROJECT from Rethymno creates the musical atmosphere is unique and invites the audience to a musical journey to the wider eastern Mediterranean area. The simple compositional forms open space for the development of sound worlds that touch the listener's senses. They create images that are directly connected to the Cretan nature. The delicate lines of the double bass in combination with the particularly sensitive and at the same time dynamic interaction of the Stamna (Cretan variant of the African Dudu / clay percussion) and the piano create a Mediterranean aesthetic of chamber music that incorporates elements and timbres from tradition, jazz, rock and classical music.
