The quintet "VLASTOS" bases its musical work on the oldest musical material of the island of Crete. This material was collected and recorded by the folklorist and pedagogue Pavlos Vlastos during his research throughout Crete between 1860 and 1910. Dimitris Sgouros searched for this archive and selected 59 pieces from over 400 dance melodies and songs, which he produced together with notable musicians from Crete in 2010. In 2018, the first collaboration with musician Andreas Paragioudakis was created, who orchestrated these songs in a work that immerses the audience in a sophisticated balance between the archaic, the lyrical and the explosive.
