Vocal Coaching for Universities & Conservatories: Expanding the Sonic Horizon

In the academic and conservatory setting, I offer a specialized vocal coaching program designed to push the boundaries of traditional vocal training. Moving beyond standard repertoire, my methodology invites students to explore vocal expression within a dynamic collective framework, where the group becomes a living laboratory for sonic experimentation.
At the core of this approach is the integration of traditional vocal aesthetics from the Eastern Mediterranean, with a specific focus on the rich, complex traditions of Greece. By immersing students in these ancient yet vibrant styles, I introduce a diversity of rhythms, modes, and timbres that challenge conventional Western music pedagogy.
My methodology has been successfully implemented at the highest levels of music education. As a Guest Professor at the Tiroler Landeskonservatorium in Innsbruck and the STELLA Private Music University in Feldkirch, I have guided students through this unique curriculum, demonstrating how traditional oral traditions can be seamlessly integrated into formal higher education to foster creativity and technical mastery.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Rhythmic & Modal Expansion: Students engage with asymmetric meters and microtonal nuances characteristic of Greek and Eastern Mediterranean music, significantly broadening their rhythmic precision and harmonic perception.
  • Redefining Musical Possibility: This exposure forces a re-evaluation of "what music is" and "how it works." Students learn to navigate fluid structures where improvisation, oral tradition, and composed elements coexist, fostering a more flexible and adaptive musical mindset.
  • Collective Voice Architecture: Working in a group, students learn to weave their individual voices into complex, polyphonic textures. This collective practice enhances listening skills, ensemble cohesion, and the ability to respond intuitively to shifting musical landscapes.

These sessions provide conservatory and university students with essential tools to become more versatile, culturally aware, and expressive musicians. By bridging the gap between academic rigor and the raw, organic power of traditional folk and universal expression, the program prepares the next generation of artists to innovate within a globalized musical world.
